Person standing on the edge of a cliff

You’re standing at the edge of the cliff; there is a big drop and you know you don’t want to fall into the abyss. It is stressful standing here, your muscles are tight and you keep feeling like, one more thing and I’m over the edge.

You look over your shoulder, to see if you could take a step back, so you aren’t so close to the edge. What you see are all the beliefs you have, the responsibilities and the what ifs. There is worry, anxiety, grief, fear milling throughout all the thoughts. You also see the ancestral lineage of beliefs, health issues and pressure to conform. Inner mixed in all of this is strength, tenacity, insight.

What’s missing is self-love, nurturing, softness, peace, calm, balance.

You turn back to look down at your feet and see how much closer you’ve moved to the edge. Something has got to change; this pressure is too much. You decide to go talk to a professional. After the first session, you feel so much better and recognize you’ve taken a couple of steps away from the edge. The freedom of this feels amazing! You can breathe and there is some space to move about. You vow to not get so close the edge again. You don’t return, why bother, you feel better and isn’t that why you went in the first place?

Time goes on and you find yourself at the edge again, the pressures have built up and you are feeling the same way you were not that long ago. This time, you vow to seek professional help and will follow through longer.

After a couple of months, you are feeling so much better, you see things differently, you have let go of many things that had been pushing you to the edge, you have acquired new tools for coping and navigating your life. You believe you’ve “fixed the issue”.

You are no longer pushed to the edge; however, you are still about three to six feet away from the edge. This becomes the new normal. Which definitely feels better than where you used to be. Things continue to be pressure but not to the degree it used to be. Is there really any need to see that professional again?

What if, instead of navigating your life as pressure, you learn to utilize the space you’ve created. This space allows to delve deeper into the areas that you hold as beliefs and “the way it has to be”. You are no longer in survival mode, and this allows you an opportunity to observe where the root causes are and actually make a long-lasting change.

Making long lasting changes to your life is not a quick fix, it’s a process. It’s saying to your body, mind and soul, you are worth taking time to heal, soften, connecting to the inner peace, the inner wisdom and most of all the authentic self that is here having the human experience.

I personally have been utilizing this “extra” space of healing and I’ve found it to be an amazing experience. Areas of my life that I thought were “fixed” have bubbled up new insight, new awareness, thereby helping me to navigate in a calmer, more accepting, and peace-filled place.

Only you can decide how close to the edge you desire to live. I want you to know, there is always a choice, there are always options, there are always new tools to acquire to navigate your life.
