Who Are You?

There is a group gathering, you are sitting with a variety of people and there is introduction time. You cannot introduce yourself in what you do for a living or volunteer, whether you have a partner or children/grandchildren, divorced/widowed, etc., how do you introduce yourself? How do you identify who you are?
In society we attach status and importance on all the above things, but they really don’t tell us anything about the person.
Here are some questions to explore.
- What am I interested in that I haven’t tried?
- What do I want to be remembered for?
- What are my strengths/talents?
- What do I enjoy doing for fun?
- What am I passionate about?
- What topics make me the most angry?
- What are my personal values?
- What do I like to make/create?
- What are my moral and spiritual beliefs?
If you were to peel away all the layers of fitting into society, family dynamics, career requirements, who is the authentic person underneath all of this?
I continue to explore and excavate more of my authentic self. I am learning to find my voice, my ability to speak up and ask for what it is I desire. Whether it is in a personal relationship or dealing with people of authority. I have a desire to continue to get to know the person I am, to have perspective on how I go through my day to day life, paying attention to my triggers and also to be grateful for the peace, grace and empathy that I am able to have.
This is a wonderful exercise to explore. Take time to jot down some notes, journal, meander in your mind, who are you?
