How Did I Get Here? Part 4

I am walking through the break room area shortly after returning from a trip to see my daughter and there is a brochure about reiki and a class being offered. I knew this was spirit speaking to me. The guidance was strong. The classes were filled and the teacher was pregnant but she would be offering them again in the spring of 2013. As soon as I could, I signed up for the class scheduled for March 3rd 2013.

I think it’s interesting that I didn’t do any type of research or reading about reiki prior to class. I had such a strong desire to explore being a healer that the idea I would have a word to describe it was my main priority. I intuitively felt I would know what to do.

It was a small class of five people. I intuitively knew my energy was big and this was a small classroom. I was trying to pull my energy inward to make myself smaller because people were commenting about it. Someone said that no matter how hard I try I will never be able to contain who I am and my energy. I was actually grateful to know this.

When it came time to receive the attunement, the teacher said she was going to put these energetic symbols in the palms of our hands as part of the ceremony. In my head, I sarcastically thought, whatever, put the symbols there and let’s get this going. Oh my, was I caught off guard! As she performed the ritual over me, and when she touched the centers of my hands there was this very strong swirling energy that hadn’t been there before. I was surprised and elated all at once. It was transforming.

During the month between the reiki 1 and reiki 2 attunement, my hands and wrists ached horribly, I had all kinds of issues with my ego fighting to not let go and control what I was experiencing. I had to learn to let go and not be in such fear. I also felt like I could “beam” energy out of my wrists like Spiderman. Lots of laughter throughout this time as I explored this whole new way of being unfolding.

Within two weeks of receiving the reiki 2 attunement, I had my first client. She was someone I had met at a workshop that was about energy. I was in awe as I shared reiki with her as I could feel the energy, and she could also. My hands also got very warm during the session.

I started out offering 30 minutes of free reiki and had eight individuals sign up. Sometimes my whole body would get hot depending on the client. There were times I would have sweat dripping down my back the energy would flow so strong. It was an amazing time of discovery and learning!

It was during one session that I sensed an energy that had passed over and it was my clients father. He had passed away about six months prior. I was scared to share with her as she was new to all of this. She didn’t really accept it but it was so clear to me at the time I couldn’t deny it. I just knew it was male energy and it was her father.

I was offering reiki sessions out of my home, primarily advertising on Facebook and through word of mouth. I was what I call in the spiritual closet because I didn’t really want too many people to know what it was that I was doing. I did take an online class from a teacher located in the UK, called Discovering Yourself Through Art and shortly after, I created a workshop called Intuitive Art Workshop. I was featured in a local free magazine and that helped me connect with more people.

I so desired to create my own business and be able to do energy healing full time but it wasn’t to be, at least for now. I had more self-healing to go through and more learning on how to run my own business. Over the course of three years I continued to practice reiki in my home with occasional clients. There was a part of me that really wanted to step out and share my gifts and another part that was so scared of what people would think. Would they think I was crazy talking about energy healing and this word reiki?

Look for next week’s newsletter as I share with you how I got to this place of being an energy healer.
