gift in front of tree

Forty-five years ago, I gave the Christmas eve sermon, titled The Giving of a Gift at the First United Methodist Church. Every year the youth group hosted the entire service. Today, as I write this, I’m reminded of what a gift each of us have the opportunity to give. It is not in material form, it is our energy, our vibration, our intentions of how we choose to live.

I was having a conversation the other day and the person had had a falling out with her parents over choosing to live a life they did not understand and were unwilling to accept. They agreed to disagree and be civil with each other in public. The rest of the family was going to be getting together after Christmas Day and her parents invited her to join them for brunch at their home. She was reluctant to go.  We explored different ways she could get out of going, and then came upon this idea. What if, on her way there she set intentions to connect with her inner light, her inner knowing. Strengthening this inner light of peace and love and arrive at her parent’s house centered and grounded. I encouraged her to simply be in observation mode. Observe conversation, behavior, and such. No need to get emotional or triggered. Accept where her parents are, what their beliefs and ways of being are. She doesn’t have to agree or try to get them to understand her (they aren’t going to). As she is there, continuing to connect to her heart center and emanating out love and peace she offers an opportunity for a different type of interaction. She isn’t going to play into the disagreements or the ways that her parents want her to be. She is honoring herself and who she is.

Lately I’ve been seeing the world as more of a play being acted out. There are “actors” that come into the scene, stay for a bit and then leave “stage left”.  It’s so interesting to watch and then to realize that I am the lead in my own life AND I’ve written the script also! As I realize this, I am reminded that I get to then re-write the script, I get to make the changes as needed. Not happy with the ways things are playing out? Happy with how easily things have evolved? Write more, erase and rewrite where needed.

What I do know, is that every one of us could use a bit more connection to who we are. Not the human body avatar, no, the multi-dimensional being each of us are. We each have this light, that is connected to All That Is, this energy that can change and evolve. Because this energy can change and evolve, we have an opportunity to have an impact on our lives and the lives of others. We can choose to engage or not. Want to share joy, share joy or not. Having a bad day, share your bad day or not. What you get to understand is that by being aware, you get to better understand, the ripple effect you have in your choices.

I believe that there was a baby born, and he was named Jesus, his light, his energy had this huge ripple effect. Let us not underestimate our own light, our own abilities of connecting, of sending out a ripple effect of peace, love and most of all hope.

May this holiday season be one of your own inner connection and understanding the ripple effect (gift) you get to share in your family, community, world and universe!

What is Enlightenment

I came across this post from JeffFosterOfficial on Instagram and it really resonated with me. What is enlightenment? It’s falling in love with this ordinariness. It’s seeing the extraordinary –

Winter Days

I had to run to the store just now, it’s 6:30 pm. I just realized that what I thought was a pimple (yes, at age 62) is actually a cold
