For over ten years, I have chosen a word for the year. It is and has been a fun way to set an intention of awareness. It was in 2013 via a book club that I was told of word-of-the-year. Some of the words I have had were; gratitude, self-love, experience, miracle, receive, explore and in 2023 Discipline.
Let me tell you, having the word discipline was a difficult one for me to start out with. I had the mindset and belief that discipline was limiting, strict and not much fun. It took me over half the year to really embrace being disciplined. This weekly newsletter is one of the benefits of embracing it! The discipline it has taken to do this weekly hasn’t been a burden, it’s more a connecting within myself and how to connect with you. What has really taken me by surprise is the number of people I receive feedback from via email or in person of how much they look forward to receiving. It really warms my heart.
There have been many other things that have impacted me this year by keeping the word discipline or something similar in my thoughts. I’d been creating stained glass since 2022 and decided to start a business to sell the items. It’s been heartwarming to think of the individuals that I know and have never met that have items I have created hanging up for them to enjoy! Many, many other experiences have helped me embrace discipline!
What is my word for 2024? The word Thrive came to me the other day and it resonates strongly. I’m also using a Thesaurus to see the other words such as Bloom, Blossom, Flourish, Grow, Prosper, Shine, and Succeed to mention a few. I put together a collage using magazines and put it on the back side of my front door so I see it daily. Seeing the variety of images each day helps me to focus, make intentions, and create the life I desire. Here is a picture of my collage from 2023.
