I wrote this newsletter prior to heading to Santa Fe, New Mexico on Monday, May 5th. I’m meeting up with my daughter, Britt and we are spending the week together and exploring all the sights and tastes we can take in. I come back in the evening of Saturday, May 10th and knew I wouldn’t have the focus or energy to put a newsletter together.

Not all mothers are ready to be a mother, even if the pregnancy was planned. It takes so much more than anyone can possibly explain. Some seem to be able to handle all the things that are thrown at them with ease and grace. Others are trying to just survive from day to day. It’s probably better that none of us knew what we were getting into the first time, and when we had more than one, we decided the challenges outweighed the amazing sparkling light of each child. Some mothers gave birth and gave the child to others. Some experienced being a mother just briefly for whatever reason, whether it was by choice or by health happenstance.

Regardless of the relationship you have or had with your mother, may you be at peace. May positive memories bubble up to the surface for you. Being a mother is not just giving birth, being a mother shows up in many different ways, the kindness you showed to someone, smiling at the child in the grocery cart, praying or uplifting those that are frightened or just need some extra love. Let’s also remember the mothers of furry pets, how they nurture and take care of the needs of this loving being.

My wish for each of you, is to celebrate nurturing yourself, being kind to yourself, mother yourself the way that you needed to be mothered. Sending each of you the best mother-type hug I can give energetically. May you feel the love, warmth and kindness that is wrapped in it.
